My 2018 Tribune Bay Camp Experience

Hello everyone,

In today’s post I’m going to be telling you about my experience at the Tribune Bay Outdoor Adventure Camp. I had a great time and did a lot of cool stuff like repelling down a climbing wall,  kayaking, walking across logs in the air and climbing big ladders. I’m going to tell you all about it in these  in  the next paragraphs!

The first activity that our group was kayaking. I really enjoyed kayaking with my group. We went out far and looked at some cliffs and rocks. We also learned about some of the fish in the water around Tribune Bay. The next activity we did was repelling. I did repelling last year and I had lots of fun. This year I was a little bit better at it than last year. This time I was pushing my feet off the wall and repelling down. After doing kayaking and repelling, we had dinner. The first night we had spaghetti and Caesar salad. It was really good. And my favourite, we had apple crumble for desert. It was so good. After dinner, we had some free time. My friends and I just hung-out at are cabins and waited for camp fire. When it came to camp fire I would sit beside my friends and wait until the camp leader showed up. When he got to campfire we did some repeat after me songs and some dances. After all the camp songs we got to have hot chocolate and popcorn. After campfire we had free time to hangout with friends. My friends and I just walked around the camp.

The next day we did High Ropes. At the high ropes, I did something called the Possum Log. At the possum log you climb up cargo net and then try and stand on a log then walk across it. Last year I scooched across it instead of walking across it. This year I walked across it. The next activity we did was the leap of faith. The leap of faith is where you climb up a telephone pole and then jump of it and try to grab the trapeze. Sadly, I didn’t grab the bar but I was close. I had lots of fun at camp.

Thanks for reading!

I Need…You!

b b Hello everybody! I need to ask a favour from you. I would like you to fill out a survey below. This survey is about a product I’m making for my young entrepreneur fair at my school. I am selling mini basketball hoops and I need your feedback as soon as possible. I know most of you won’t actually be able to come and buy my product but at least you could give feedback on what you like so I have an idea of how I can make my product almost perfect.

Death In Space

In our class, we watched a video called Death In Space. In this video, there were a couple of funny ways to die in space. Here is mine…

Bobby walked down the corridor to the space ambulances, it was his the first day on the job. He was one of those confident people who thought it was going to be easy. Well no, it wasn’t going be easy. The war had just ended on the planet of Salty Springs. Many human sacrifices were made and many were injured and needed assistance. But the problem was, everybody was gone! There was no one to assist Bobby. So he took it upon himself to fly a space ambulance. As the engines rumbled, ready for take off, Bobby decided to press the big red button because he liked big red buttons. And out of know where he shot up the like a bottle rocket into space and ascended to the planet of Salty Springs. When he arrived at Salty Springs, there was a big cloud of red smoke covering the horizon. As he zoomed in on the red cloud he could see 2 people carrying an injured person. Then Bobby hovered over them and pressed the big blue button that said land. But a split second before he could notice, he was going to land on them instead of beside them. But it was too late, the shuttle was already speeding to the ground like water falling from a bathtub…

Where I Live, Beautiful British Columbia

Of structures and marvels

Hello Everybody,

British Columbia, or as we call it: Super Natural British Columbia.

This is where I live, well I live in a town called the Comox Valley that is located in that province. I’ve been living here about my whole life and I’ve enjoyed almost every second of it. We have some of the warmest summers and some of the coldest winters. It’s a beautiful place to live, there are so many forests, beaches and so much more. In the next few paragraphs, I’m going to be telling you 3 of my favourite places in the Comox Valley.

  1. The Comox Valley Turf Field

This is one of my favourite places in the Comox Valley because it’s a big soccer pitch! I do a lot of practices there with my soccer team and our team has played a lot of good games there. Almost every summer I come down to the turf and play soccer with my friends and neighbors. It also wasn’t built to long ago so it’s in really good shape for our games and our community takes good care of it.

2. Barber’s Hole

Barbers Hole is a big pool of water with big cliffs to jump off and my friend lives right beside it! Every summer we go to Barbers Hole and jump off the cliffs. It is also fun because you have to hang on to a rope to carry you down to the cliffs and the water is so refreshing and cold in the summertime. There are three cliffs you can jump off, the first one is like 60ft and the second one is 40ft and the third one is like 20ft for younger kids. There is also a rope swing but that’s for more experienced cliff jumpers because you have to know what time to leave the rope.

3.  My Grandparent’s House

To finish it off, my least favourite place in the Comox Valley is my Grandparent’s house. In the summertime, I always go over to my Grandparent’s because they have a big above ground pool! My Grandpa built it himself. Every year the whole family comes over and swims, talks and have a big lunch. And whenever I’m at my grandparents house me and my Grandpa make root-beer floats.

And that comes to the end of this post! Hope you enjoyed!

A Harris Burdick Mystery: Uninvited Guests

Hello fellow friends,

In our class for the last week we have been working on interesting sentences with nouns, verbs, adjectives, clauses, adverbs etc.. Then we moved on to working on a paragraph about a Harris Burdick Mystery. In his book, there are lots of pictures but not many words because it is a mystery. Everbody in our class would get to choose a mystery of their choice. For my mystery, as you can see in the title is called Uninvited Guests. Now, I will show you the paragraph I made for this, enjoy!

As his footsteps trembled down the staircase, which dust poofed from the steps and into the air. It was so quiet down in that little basement of his. He hadn’t been down there in years. Swiftly he turned his head to scout out what he wanted, but he didn’t want much. He walked over to a table with some old tools on it because he needed to repair his bathroom door. There was nothing special about this basement or was there?? As picked out the tools he heard a screeching sound like a monster from a horror movie. He turned around and looked for whatever that horrible sound was. He was about to give up until he saw this little doorknob behind some tables. He moved the tables out of the way and peeked through a little crack that was left in the door. He wasn’t sure how to handle the situation. He thought in his head: How did I not notice this??What could be in behind this majestic door?? Is this thing dangerous?? No one really knows. He decided to take a closer look and he reached in and something grabbed him by the arm and he was gone.

Homelessness, A Problem Around the World

Hello friends,

Over the last couple our class has been focusing on Homelessness, a problem all around the world. I became interested in homelessness a long time ago. When I was younger I always was looking at people that were sitting on the sides of streets and always wondered why they were there. As I got older I started figuring out that there are so many reasons why there are people on the streets. I will get in to that later. As of 2005, there is a estimated 100 million people in the world that are homeless! That number should not be that big!

There are many reasons why people are homeless. Some people get addicted to drugs and end up spending all their money on drugs. There are many other reasons like drinking addictions, house costs rising way to much that they cant pay their rent, surgeries that cost lots of money, diseases that take them away from their jobs. I’ve watched some videos on YouTube about homeless people and they say people walk by them everyday like there not even there. A group of people in new York did a experiment were a they hired a teenager and put him on the side of  road with no clothes and one little garbage bag  to sleep in. He sat in the little garbage bag for a couple hours and nobody decided to help except for one man, another homeless man. When the other homeless man gave him money the people filming came out and told the man it’s was a experiment. Then they gave the man some money. It just shows that people need to help others and not just themselves. It’s weird how the homeless person is giving  to another homeless man and the people are walking by don’t even help.

There are also many people who do have jobs but are poor. I saw a commercial on TV a of a woman who is a waitress at a restaurant and when she is taking the food back to the kitchen, half of the sandwich has not been eaten so she takes a  bite and  walks to the next table. This just shows you can’t always see homelessness but it is there.

I hoped you learned a bit more about homelessness and what it takes on peoples lives.

What questions do you have about homelessness?

Have a wonderful day!

Jack

What will Christmas be Like in 100 Years?

Hello friends,

Samichlaus with 5 weeks old baby

As you can see the title of this post, you must wonder, what will Christmas be like in 100 years?

Honestly, I’m not to sure what Christmas will look like in 100 years. I have never thought of it. But, I do have some ideas.

I think in 100 years, Christmas won’t be much different from now but I think there could be changes to Christmas lights, Christmas trees and Santa’s sleigh.

In 100 years, all Christmas lights will be LED and there will be a app you can connect all your lights to so you customize all  the colours, details and  change the patterns they make  and a   Christmas light gun. You ask, what is a Christmas light gun? Well, if have ever watched ” How The Grinch Stole Christmas” you would know.In the movie, there is a woman who boguht a christmas gun and she shoot the lights out and they connect to the clamps on the house.  I think all Christmas trees will be plastic, even know some people do buy plastic trees already, I think everybody will want a plastic one. I think thsi because you can reuse a plastic one and real ones are sticky and they drop a lot of branches.

I also think Santa’s sleigh will have some modifications like boosters that will help him get to his destination faster. I also think his reindeer will be a lot faster Santa will give is reinder special powers and his sleigh will have a  tracker that motorizes and his sleigh and will show if the children in the house are asleep.

I don’t think much will change in the next 100 years because I think everybody loves the way Christmas  is right now. But I do think people will come up with news ideas for Christmas in the future.

Happy Holidays!!

The Beautiful Game, Soccer

Hello  Friends,

In today’s post, I am going to tell you the most played sport around the world, one of the greatest games ever to be played…soccer!!

The game soccer, also know as footbal,l started way back in 1863. The game became very popular in the medieval days of England. The English also came up with the rules and regulations. Over the years, it became a very popular sport all over the world.

Before rules were made, the Romans and Egyptians played games with their feet and a ball. But, they could use any accessories to get the ball in the opponents goal.

At one time, soccer was banned because of how dangerous they played it. The football association in England started the same year it rules were made.

The first international game ever played was in 1872. It was England against Scotland. When other countries started playing this sport, America establish their soccer association in 1921. They played with a brown, bulky leather ball. To this day, soccer is the most popular sport in the world and some of the most talented players out there like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr are being payed millions of dollars!!

I also play Soccer! I play for a team in the Comox Valley called the Red Knights. I have been playing soccer since I was very little. I also play for a other team called the Rush. There are located up Island. In 2018, I’m going to a Washington State for a soccer tournament. When I went this summer, our team placed 1st ! On the field, I play Striker. I can also >>>>>paly a little bit of mid field but my coach wants me at the top.

My favourite team is Paris Saint Germain : PSG for short. My favourite player plays for PSG, his name is Neymar Jr. He is one of the best players in the world. He is not as good at Cristiano Ronaldo but Neymar he has speed and skill. Neymar also plays striker but he is on the left wing. PSG plays a 4-3-3. That means they have 4 in the back, 3 in the middle and 3 at the top. PSG has won 7 league cups and have also won 1 UEFA cup. They are the most successful French team with winning trophies! They have a record for 39 wins in a row, unbeaten!!

I hope you enjoyed this post on Soccer!

Do you play Soccer??

What is your favourite sport??

Have a wonderful day!!

Jack

I got my information from here.

Neymar Jr: Soaring Speed

This is a photo of Neymar

Hello friends,

The ball soars  across the pitch, Neymar gets a perfect touch, turns, shoots for the net …. and it’s a goal!!

Neymar once again with a beautiful finish.

His name is Neymar Jr. He is a professional soccer player from Brazil and has being playing soccer for just about 8 years. He is one of my heroes in life because I want to be just like him when I’m older because he shows a good example of a soccer player. As of today, he plays for a team in France called Paris Saint-Germain  PSG Neymar is 25 years old. He has played in the World Cup and he has won the World Cup before. His position on the soccer field is forward. He is both footed which means he can shoot with his right and left foot. He has also been nominated for the Ballon d’Or. The Ballon d’Or is a award for the top overall player of the year. Now that I have told you a little bit about him, I’m going to tell you about the successful learner traits he uses.

Neymar shows confidence in many ways. He is very confident when he plays with his team and very confident when doing his skills on the soccer field. He never thinks that he and his team will have a bad game, he makes his team feel more confident with him on the field. When it comes to challenges, he can over come challenges off the pitch and on the pitch. Neymar never gives up when he plays and is always making other people confident on and off the field.

Neymar is definitely a risk taker. On the pitch, he is always trying new tricks that are very risky. He takes risks with is team when they are trying a new strategies on the pitch. He takes risks when he is taking free kicks and penalty kicks. Neymar takes risk when shooting or passing the ball because if he passes the ball and another player intercepts it, then he will have to help his team get the ball back. And if he shoots the ball, it may deflect off another player or he might miss the net which is very frustrating because you really want to help your team get  a goal.

Neymar is a very compassionate player. He has done many charities in the past for children in need of help. Neymar charieties On and off the field, he is a very nice person who helps others and cares about them. On the soccer field he is always helping up his players that have fell and members from the other team sometime. If he hurts a player by accident, he says sorry and helps them up. Neymar is also very respectful to others like better players than him. He shares his creativity with his team. He tells them ideas he has for a game plan  other things like that. He is fair on the pitch when it comes to the ball going out of the field and admitting  that it is the other teams ball.

To conclude this blog post, I am going to ask you how these learner traits and more can help you through your learning. Do successful learner traits help you? Which ones do you use? How can Neymar’s traits influence you in your learning?

Have a wonderful day!

Jack
